Lighting Quality

Face the light

Face the Light Source

The single biggest factor in video quality is lighting. Stand facing a window or light source so your whole body is evenly lit. Avoid having the light behind you, as it turns you into a silhouette.

Even lighting

Avoid Harsh Shadows

Overhead lights cast shadows under your eyes, nose, and chin. Side lights create half-dark faces. Both make it harder to track your expressions and movements accurately.

Good setups

Good Lighting Setups

Outdoors on a sunny day gives the best results, with natural, even light across your whole body. At night, a well-lit street with streetlights or neon signs works great. The key is having a bright, direct light source in front of you.

Bad setups

Avoid Dark Environments

A dark outdoor area at night with no nearby light, or a dim room with no window: these don't work. Phone screens or small LEDs are not enough. If the camera can't see you clearly, neither can the system.

Pro Tip
Not sure about your lighting? Take a selfie with your rear camera. If your face is clearly visible with no harsh shadows, you're good to go.
